pipeline at Chennault Airpark, formerly known as Chennault Air Force Base,
in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

A BILL
To require the Secretary of the Army, acting through the Chief of Engineers, to
take such actions as may be necessary to ensure the removal of any hazardous
substance stored in or discharged from any underground storage tank or
pipeline at Chennault Airpark, formerly known as Chennault Air Force Base,
in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
  Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United
  States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. REMOVAL OF HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES AT CHENNAULT AIRPARK.
  (a) IN GENERAL- The Secretary of the Army, acting through the Chief of
  Engineers, shall take such actions as may be necessary--
  (1) in accordance with the schedule established in subsection (b), to
  ensure the removal of any hazardous substance stored in or discharged from
  any underground storage tank or pipeline at Chennault Airpark, formerly
  known as Chennault Air Force Base, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and
  (2) to prevent any such storage tank from being used to store a hazardous
  substance after the removal.
  (b) REMOVAL SCHEDULE- The schedule for removal under subsection (a) shall
  be as follows:
  (1) ESTIMATE OF COSTS- Not later than December 31, 1989, a survey of the
  area of the removal and a written estimate of the costs of the removal
  shall be completed.
  (2) CONTRACT- Not later than March 1, 1990, contracts for the removal with
  such persons as the Secretary selects for such purpose shall be entered into.
  (3) COMPLETION OF REMOVAL- Not later than August 1, 1990, the removal
  shall be completed.
SEC. 2. FUNDING.
  Funds necessary to carry out this Act shall be paid from amounts made
  available to the Secretary of the Army, before the date of the enactment
  of this Act, for the removal of hazardous substances.
