Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. TERMS OF SERVICE OF MEMBERS OF NATIONAL CAPITAL PLANNING COMMISSION. (a) Timing of Expiration of Terms.--Section 2(b)(2) of the Act entitled ``An Act providing for a comprehensive development of the park and playground system of the National Capital'', approved June 6, 1924 (40 U.S.C. 71a(b)(2); sec. 2-1002(b)(2), D.C. Official Code) is amended by inserting immediately before ``Any person appointed'' the following: ``The term of a member appointed under this paragraph shall expire on April 30 of the final year of the term.''. (b) Continuation of Service.--Section 2(b)(2) of such Act (40 U.S.C. 71a(b)(2); sec. 2-1002(b)(2), D.C. Official Code) is amended by inserting immediately before ``Any person appointed'' the following: `` A member of the Commission appointed under this paragraph may serve after the expiration of the member's term until a successor has taken office.''. SEC. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. The amendments made by section 1-- (1) in the case of the amendment made by section 1(a), shall apply with respect to members serving on the National Capital Planning Commission on or after the date of the enactment of this Act; and (2) in the case of the amendment made by section 1(b), shall be deemed to have taken effect July 1, 1974. <all>
