                        MESSAGES FROM THE HOUSE

  At 11:04 a.m., a message from the House of Representatives, delivered 
by Ms. Niland, one of its reading clerks, announced that the House 
agrees to the report of the committee of conference on the disagreeing 
votes of the two Houses on the amendment of the Senate to the bill 
(H.R. 4546) to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2003 for 
military activities of the Department of Defense, for military 
construction, and for defense activities of the Department of Energy, 
to prescribe personnel strengths for such fiscal year for the Armed 
Forces, and for other purposes.
  At 2:33 p.m., a message from the House of Representatives, delivered 
by Ms. Niland, one of its reading clerks, announced that the House has 
passed the following joint resolution, in which it requests the 
concurrence of the Senate:

       H.J. Res. 124. A joint resolution making further continuing 
     appropriations for the fiscal year 2003, and for other 
     purposes.

  The message also announced that the House has agreed to the following 
resolution:

       H. Res. 598. Resolution stating that the House has heard 
     with profound sorrow of the death of the Honorable Paul D. 
     Wellstone, a Senator from the State of Minnesota.

  The message further announced that pursuant to section 491 of the 
Higher Education Act (20 U.S.C. 1098(c)), and upon recommendation for 
the Majority Leader, the Speaker reappoints the following member on the 
part of the House of Representatives to the Advisory Committee on 
Student Financial Assistance for a 3-year term: Ms. Judith Flink of 
Morton Grove, Illinois.

  The message also announced that pursuant to section 4404(c)(2) of 
Public Law 107-171, the Majority Leader appoints the following 
individual on the part of the House of Representatives to the Board of 
Trustees of the Congressional Hunger Fellows Program: Mr. Max Finberg 
of New York.
  The message further announced that the House agrees to the amendment 
of the Senate to the bill (H.R. 1070) to amend the Federal Water 
Pollution Control Act to authorize the Administrator of the 
Environmental Protection Agency to carry out projects and research for 
remediation of sediment contamination in areas of concern in the Great 
Lakes, and for other purposes.
  The message also announced that the House agrees to the amendment of 
the Senate to the bill (H.R. 2546) to amend title 49, United States 
Code, to prohibit States from requiring a license or fee on account of 
the fact that a motor vehicle is providing interstate pre-arranged 
ground transportation service, and for other purposes.
  The message further announced that the House agrees to the amendment 
of the Senate to the bill (H.R. 3389) to reauthorize the National Sea 
Grant College Program Act, and for other purposes.
  The message also announced that the House agrees to the amendment of 
the Senate to the bill (H.R. 3394) to authorize funding for computer 
and network security research and development and research fellowship 
programs, and for other purposes.
  The message further announced that the House agrees to the amendment 
of the Senate to the bill (H.R. 4878) to provide for estimates and 
reports of improper payments by Federal agencies.
