 ANNOUNCEMENT BY COMMITTEE ON RULES REGARDING AMENDMENTS TO H.R. 1261, 
         WORKFORCE REINVESTMENT AND ADULT EDUCATON ACT OF 2003

  (Mr. LINDER asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
  Mr. LINDER. The Committee on Rules may meet the week of May 5 to 
grant a rule which could limit the amendment process for floor 
consideration of H.R. 1261, the Workforce Reinvestment and Adult 
Education Act of 2003. The Committee on Education and the Workforce 
ordered the bill reported on March 27, 2003, and filed the report with 
the House today, May 1, 2003.
  Any Member wishing to offer an amendment should submit 55 copies of 
the amendment and one copy of a brief explanation of the amendment to 
the Committee on Rules in room H-312 of the Capitol by 5 p.m. on 
Tuesday, May 6th. Members should draft their amendments to the text of 
the bill as reported by the Committee on Education and the Workforce, 
which is available for their review on the Web sites of both the 
Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Rules 
today.
  Members should use the Office of Legislative Counsel to ensure that 
their amendments are drafted in the most appropriate format. Members 
are also advised to check with the Office of the Parliamentarian to be 
certain their

amendments comply with the rules of the House.
