			 Veterans Affairs.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body id="HFAC34E1FC2E54E35BE4115471116CF23" style="OLC">
 <section id="HCC0AE7C3E3634E4AB9353D4A15CFE3BD" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>VA Provider Equity Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="H20DA515F12694B1F95FC5A4F3B415ECA" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Role of podiatrists in Department of Veterans Affairs</header> <subsection commented="no" id="H517652E5FC414DA0ABBC9EBB297F9B72"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Inclusion as physician</header> <paragraph id="H6149C4F586F045AD837880AF69DF2CA1"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subchapter I of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/38/74">chapter 74</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H4D7CC4820354465F9FED98961A291E43" style="USC">
 <section id="H1A580E3A53C141CFB720D1BC7CDA3F29"><enum>7413.</enum><header>Treatment of podiatrists</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">For purposes of this chapter, the term <term>physician</term> includes a podiatrist.</text></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </paragraph><paragraph id="H601FDBFDEAAD48E8AF36945F483CDD0E"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of such chapter is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 7412 the following new item:</text>

 </paragraph><paragraph id="H467094B519A44929BF563674C19AF276"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text>Section 7401(1) of such title is amended by striking <quote>Physicians, dentists, podiatrists,</quote> and inserting <quote>Physicians, dentists,</quote>.</text> </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HF7839530FC434505AEE87C327D08DCF7"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Qualifications</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 7402(b) of such title is amended—</text>
 <paragraph id="H8579602B01B64AA2968B53A82B9ED90F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1)—</text> <subparagraph id="HD5DA6EE6A1A34F54AEB40468664F17AE"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by striking <quote>or of doctor of osteopathy</quote> and inserting <quote>, doctor of osteopathy, or doctor of podiatric medicine</quote>; and</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HD423FC33086E4DB5A5BD3EC33B27226A"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph (C), by inserting <quote>podiatry,</quote> after <quote>surgery,</quote>;</text> </subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H2B2A68350DDE410D82F900BD0DD9CCFD"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking paragraph (5); and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H88E84FB33780424D994F3D81FDC96F63"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraphs (6) through (14) as paragraphs (5) through (13), respectively.</text> </paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" id="HD2BB74145D81404C9703C0B8D1BD739C"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Period of appointment</header><text>Section 7403(a)(2) of such title is amended—</text>
 <paragraph commented="no" id="HB61C3E808A64441FBB86E014542A9D39"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking subparagraph (C); and</text> </paragraph><paragraph commented="no" id="H8ED2C7DE6B7141BC8E8BFB7583649CBA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by redesignating subparagraphs (D) through (H) as subparagraphs (C) through (G), respectively.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HDF8E5061C6F24A05A66F451DCF6549F7"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Modification of pay grade</header>
 <paragraph commented="no" id="HDF193FE77398448093A7283AF79AACE6"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Grade</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The list in section 7404(b) of such title is amended by striking <quote>PODIATRIST,</quote>.</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="HE07B72774C994A78A5BC64E2661BF2A4"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Application</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendment made by paragraph (1) shall apply with respect to a pay period of the Department of Veterans Affairs beginning on or after the date that is 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H5638D41551DF4912A72EE08A84DCDD6A"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Contracts for scarce services</header><text>Section 7409(a) of such title is amended by striking <quote>podiatrists,</quote>.</text> </subsection><subsection id="HA0C33C3922FC413DB3C342CA8EABB1CD"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Personnel administration</header><text>Section 7421(b) of such title is amended—</text>
 <paragraph id="HE64738646F034257A597C1B024F63468"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking paragraph (3); and</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="HDB79AA02936642F49AF51F44807D0934"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraphs (4) through (8) as paragraphs (3) through (7), respectively.</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H8F3BB0064F8C4E3692272E1AAF4AB179"><enum>(g)</enum><header>Medical directors</header><text>Section 7306(a)(4) of such title is amended by inserting <quote>, doctor of podiatric medicine,</quote> after <quote>doctor of medicine</quote>.</text> </subsection><subsection id="H039145DBDB974B209EA0BB97B6DA7030"><enum>(h)</enum><header>Application</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to podiatrists employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs as of the date of the enactment of this Act or who are appointed on or after such date.</text>
