 <section id="H207F7CD1B2384C86A46E844EA436CABA" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Social Media Use in Clearance Investigations Act of 2017</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="HC3933D9BBEE04F65BAC002A820E71980" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Study on use of social media in security clearance investigations</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Not later than 6 months after the date of enactment of this Act, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget shall submit to Congress a report on the examination of social media activity during security clearance investigations, including—</text>
 <paragraph id="HA65DE987A0084B1F84F96CB441671600"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the current use of publicly available social media in security clearance background investigations;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="HEB53729D4396481DA094FC380E747128"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">any legal impediments to examining publicly available social media activity, and whether those impediments are statutory or regulatory in nature;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H88C007C62489459A907CCE9553F66B10"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the results of any pilot programs to incorporate social media checks in such investigations, including the effectiveness and cost of such programs;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HD51369201DA1455D93DCB9A6456D1D0B"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">options for widespread implementation of the examination of social media activity during such investigations; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H655C0588BD4744D7B7BC433E56F386A7"><enum>(5)</enum><text>estimates on the cost for such options as part of—</text> <subparagraph id="H0473F5FD54AA4307882DA414B53BEB57"><enum>(A)</enum><text>all Top Secret investigations; or</text>
