			 Affairs to disclose certain patient information to State controlled
			 substance monitoring programs, and for other purposes.</official-title></form>

 <section id="H8FF35B5C41D74DF6A3F5BCC235643B06" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>VA Prescription Data Accountability Act of 2017</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="H725EAF180386442888E88BBA943A277D"><enum>2.</enum><header>Clarification of authority of Secretary of Veterans Affairs to disclose patient information to State controlled substance monitoring programs</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 5701(l) of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text>
 <paragraph id="H6BA8220C604F4180A3A9A25798DE221D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by inserting <quote><header-in-text level="subsection" style="USC"><enum-in-header>(1)</enum-in-header></header-in-text></quote> before <quote>Under</quote>;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="HDA6E01DEEBBA4A67BA2C297E70244686"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>a veteran or the dependent of a veteran</quote> and inserting <quote>a covered individual</quote>; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H088ED0C001524518BB57C474005E988F"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H91D30416BF4447CABE1B66A4F8B7E6A0" style="USC"> <paragraph id="H22A15C4103EF490082AE80DB0BCC6760" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this subsection, the term <term>covered individual</term> means an individual who is dispensed medication prescribed by an employee of the Department or by a non-Department provider authorized to prescribe such medication by the Department.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
