	<legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H4EDF85C097524BD6A56FB8D7486948A8" style="OLC">
 <section id="H4E165C4F127B4783AFBB59EEF7FDB284" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Burial Rights for America’s Veterans’ Efforts Act of 2017</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>BRAVE Act of 2017</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="H5ECAEAEF68DE494E87197FFB859A4801" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Increase to certain funeral benefits under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs</header> <subsection id="H35228ACD3AC548FB81B3303DB704E930"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Funeral expenses</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 2302(a) of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text>
 <paragraph id="H127F279CBBDC40BABB89FA80980E8F76"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the matter after paragraph (2)(B), by striking <quote>$300</quote> and inserting <quote>$749 (as increased from time to time under subsection (c))</quote>; and</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="HED743409079E4F8CBE1CCB85D3631695"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H4F90F85939324A3EB8DB7895D26D3393" style="USC">
 <subsection id="H9E7DA8F6100540CCADE594BE7F34F1EC"><enum>(c)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">With respect to any fiscal year, the Secretary shall provide a percentage increase (rounded to the nearest dollar) in the maximum amount of burial and funeral expenses payable under subsection (a) equal to the percentage by which—</text>
 <paragraph id="H8EB981AC25D04E50862D86E6EDC84802"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Consumer Price Index (all items, United States city average) for the 12-month period ending on the June 30 preceding the beginning of the fiscal year for which the increase is made, exceeds</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H16A724F4F3D7467598F49993716799C4"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the Consumer Price Index for the 12-month period preceding the 12-month period described in paragraph (1).</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HE2150FE834884F27B1A2034A8ACF58F5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Death from service-Connected disability</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 2307 of such title is amended—</text> <paragraph id="H8DEE4C7541F840A5B601E6F94F6EFEA9"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by inserting striking <quote>In any case</quote> and inserting the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H08FDA357A8284F68AC809F8D7318B0F8" style="OLC">
 <subsection id="HB611ADD365274A209DBD0E337516BF4D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In any case</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>;</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </paragraph><paragraph id="H74B7ABE7021C4B538765D3DF1C5A65BA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (a), as designated by paragraph (1), by striking <quote>$2,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$2,000 (as increased from time to time under subsection (b))</quote>; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H8A668D3041EA4E64A72AFDEE726989C3"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H5E80754E026D41478486C157611BD062" style="USC"> <subsection id="H6A393EF7232544B5BA0B8B5978D33530"><enum>(b)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">With respect to any fiscal year, the Secretary shall provide a percentage increase (rounded to the nearest dollar) in the maximum amount of burial and funeral expenses payable under subsection (a) equal to the percentage by which—</text>
 <paragraph id="H430E38C8AF1148C4B6E7F43EBA3F23A0"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Consumer Price Index (all items, United States city average) for the 12-month period ending on the June 30 preceding the beginning of the fiscal year for which the increase is made, exceeds</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HAB1C804CC89544F5A02771F33C4E5F3B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the Consumer Price Index for the 12-month period preceding the 12-month period described in paragraph (1).</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HD4DA9025088E407F8E537E7DA2F5AB00"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this Act shall apply to deaths that occur after the date that is one year after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
