                                 PRAYER

Reverend Benjamin Hogue, Lutheran Church of the Reformation,
Washington, D.C., offered the following prayer:
God of wonder, God of grace, let streams of Your living justice flow
down upon the Earth. You send from Your abundance the people, talents,
and resources we need for our daily lives. We are grateful for the work
You have set before us and pray that, with grace and understanding, we
can come together for the common good. Continue to bless this body with
courage, truth, and humility.
Provide care to those who are ill and accompaniment to all those who
mourn. Send us to love those most in need of Your mercy. May they find
comfort and strength as we open our hearts in compassion for one
another.
Grant us grace and reconciliation to ease the hurt in the world.
Weave our varied gifts together and help us to find faith in service,
hope in others' dreams, and love in the hand of a neighbor. Inscribe
our hearts with justice.
We give You thanks, gracious God, for this is the day You have made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
  Amen.
