A BILL
To amend the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act to require public lodging
establishments to waive minimum age requirements for members of the
Armed Forces.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Hotels for Heroes Act of 2022''.
SEC. 2. WAIVER OF MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENTS IN PUBLIC LODGING
ESTABLISHMENTS FOR MEMBERS OF ARMED FORCES.
(a) Waiver.--Title VII of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (50
U.S.C. 4021 et seq.) is amended by adding at the end the following new
section:
``SEC. 708. WAIVER OF MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENTS IN PUBLIC LODGING
ESTABLISHMENTS.
``(a) Waiver.--A public lodging establishment shall waive any
minimum age requirement to obtain accommodation at such establishment
for a member of the Armed Forces who presents a valid identification
card issued by the Armed Force of such member and seeks to obtain
accommodation at such establishment while--
``(1) under military orders (as defined in section 305); or
``(2) on authorized military leave.
``(b) Penalty.--Whoever knowingly violates subsection (a) shall be
fined under title 18, United States Code.
``(c) Public Lodging Establishment Defined.--In this section, the
term `public lodging establishment' includes any inn, hotel, motel, or
other establishment that provides lodging to transient guests, other
than an establishment located within a building that contains not more
than five rooms for rent or hire and that is actually occupied by the
proprietor of such establishment as the residence of such
proprietor.''.
(b) Clerical Amendment.--The table of contents for that Act is
amended by inserting after the item relating to section 707 the
following new item:
``Sec. 708. Waiver of minimum age requirements in public lodging
establishments.''.
