                                 A BILL


 
  To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to 
   provide that grants under the COPS program may be used for salary 
                     increases to retain officers.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Retain COPS Act of 2022''.

SEC. 2. ADDITIONAL AUTHORIZED USE OF COPS GRANT FUNDS.

    Section 1701(b) of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe 
Streets Act of 1968 (34 U.S.C. 10381(b)) is amended--
            (1) in paragraph (23), by redesignating such paragraph as 
        paragraph (24);
            (2) in paragraph (22)--
                    (A) by redesignating such paragraph as paragraph 
                (23); and
                    (B) by striking ``(1) through (21); and'' and 
                inserting ``(1) through (22); and''; and
            (3) by inserting after paragraph (21) the following:
            ``(22) to retain law enforcement officers by providing 
        salary increases;''.
