 To direct the Secretary of State to add questions to visa application 
  forms related to membership and affiliation with Communist or other 
             totalitarian parties, and for other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Communist Visa Transparency Act of 
2022''.

SEC. 2. ADDITIONAL WRITTEN QUESTIONS ON VISA APPLICATION FORMS.

    (a) Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form.--Not later than 180 days 
after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of State shall 
revise the nonimmigrant visa application form (DS-160) to include, 
under the portion of the application related to security and 
background, the following questions:
            (1) Whether the alien is a member of or is affiliated with 
        the Communist or other totalitarian party.
            (2) For an alien who indicates on such application that 
        their country of origin is China, whether the alien is or has 
        been a member of, employed or funded by, or otherwise 
        affiliated with China's military, paramilitary, law 
        enforcement, public security, or national security forces.
    (b) Immigrant Visa Application Form.--Not later than 180 days after 
the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of State shall revise 
the immigrant visa application form (DS-260) to include, under the 
portion of the application related to security and background, for an 
alien who indicates on such application that their country of origin is 
China, the question of whether the alien is or has been a member of, 
employed or funded by, or otherwise affiliated with China's military, 
paramilitary, law enforcement, public security, or national security 
forces.
