A BILL
To amend the Energy Act of 2020 to alter the criteria for the
designation of critical minerals.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Critical Minerals Classification
Improvement Act of 2022''.
SEC. 2. AMENDMENT TO DEFINITION OF CRITICAL MINERAL REMOVE EXCLUSION OF
FUEL MINERALS.
(a) In General.--Section 7002(a)(3)(B) of the Energy Act of 2020
(30 U.S.C. 1606(a)(3)(B)) is amended--
(1) by striking clause (i); and
(2) by redesignating clauses (ii) and (iii) as clauses (i)
and (ii), respectively.
(b) Technical Correction.--Section 7002(a)(3)(B)(i) of the Energy
Act of 2020 (30 U.S.C. 1606(a)(3)(B)), as redesignated, is amended by
inserting ``or'' after the semicolon.
(c) Uranium Critical Mineral Status.--The Director of the United
States Geological Survey shall, not later than 90 days after the date
of enactment of this Act, make such revisions to the final list of
critical minerals included in the notice entitled ``2022 Final List of
Critical Minerals'' published by the United States Geological Survey
(87 Fed. Reg. 10381; February 24, 2022) as the Director determines are
necessary consistent with the amendments made by this section.
