A BILL
To amend title 18, United States Code, to clarify the authority of
United States Postal Service police officers to protect Postal Service
mail, employees, and property outside of property owned or occupied by
the Postal Service, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Postal Police Authority Clarifying
Act''.
SEC. 2. AUTHORITY OF POSTAL SERVICE POLICE OFFICERS TO PROTECT POSTAL
SERVICE MAIL, EMPLOYEES, AND PROPERTY OUTSIDE OF POSTAL
SERVICE REAL PROPERTY.
Section 3061(c) of title 18, United States Code, is amended--
(1) in paragraph (1), by striking ``of property'' and all
that follows through the period and inserting ``of the mail,
Postal Service employees, or any property owned or occupied by
the Postal Service, including persons on such property.'';
(2) in paragraphs (2), (3), and (4), by striking ``such
property'' each place it appears and inserting ``such duty'';
(3) in paragraph (2)(A), by striking ``for the protection
of persons and property''; and
(4) in paragraph (3)(B), by striking ``, on and off'' and
all that follows through ``on the property''.
