                                 A BILL


 
  To require the Secretary of the Air Force to submit a report to the 
 Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives on a plan 
 to characterize the asbestos risk of former Air Force defense sites, 
                        and for other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. REPORT ON PLAN TO CHARACTERIZE ASBESTOS RISK OF FORMER AIR 
              FORCE DEFENSE SITES.

    (a) Report.--Not later than December 15, 2022, the Secretary of the 
Air Force shall develop and submit to the Committee on Armed Services 
of the House of Representatives a report on a plan to characterize the 
asbestos risk of defense sites formerly used by or under the 
jurisdiction of the Secretary and, if required, provide remediation for 
such sites.
    (b) Matters Included.--The report under subsection (a) shall 
include, at a minimum--
            (1) a list of defense sites formerly used by or under the 
        jurisdiction of the Secretary with known or expected asbestos 
        contamination;
            (2) a timeline and prioritized list for characterizing the 
        asbestos risk of such sites through site inspections and 
        remedial investigations; and
            (3) an assessment of the deterioration of facilities and 
        the corresponding risk of friable asbestos being released into 
        soils and groundwater.
