                                 A BILL


 
   To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to require an alien 
 arriving from a foreign territory contiguous to the United States to 
           return to such territory, and for other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Migrant Protection Protocols Act of 
2022''.

SEC. 2. TREATMENT OF ALIENS ARRIVING FROM CONTIGUOUS TERRITORY.

    Section 235(b)(2)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 
U.S.C. 1225(b)(2)(C)) is amended by striking ``may return'' and 
inserting ``shall return''.
