A BILL
To direct the Secretary of Transportation to issue certain regulations
to define the term ``classroom'' for the purposes of parts 240 and 242
of title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Rail Employee Training Modernization
Act''.
SEC. 2. AMENDMENT OF DEFINITIONS.
(a) In General.--Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment
of this Act, the Secretary of Transportation shall issue such
regulations as are necessary to define the term ``classroom'' for the
purposes of parts 240 and 242 of title 49, Code of Federal Regulations,
to mean a physical or virtual space where training is provided by a
qualified instructor.
(b) Rule of Construction.--Nothing in this Act may be construed as
intending to amend any certification requirements, including the length
of classroom training, materials provided or covered in classroom
training, or additional training requirements outside classroom
training, including simulator, computer-based, correspondence, on-the-
job training, or other formal training.
