A BILL
To amend the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to prohibit the use of
supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits to purchase sugary
beverages.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``SNAP Back to Health Act of 2022''.
SEC. 2. AMENDMENTS.
Section 3 of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (7 U.S.C. 2012) is
amended--
(1) in subsection (k) by inserting ``sugary beverages,''
after ``alcoholic beverages,'', and
(2) by inserting after subsection (r) the following:
``(r-1) `Sugary beverage' means a beverage that contains brown
sugar, corn sweetener, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, glucose, high-
fructose corn syrup, honey, lactose, malt syrup, maltose, molasses, raw
sugar, and sucrose, aspartame, Splenda, acesulfame potassium, stevia,
or any similar substance as determined by the Secretary.''.
SEC. 3. EFFECTIVE DATES.
(a) Effective Date.--Except as provided in subsection (b), this Act
and the amendments made by this Act shall take effect on the date of
the enactment of this Act.
(b) Effective Date of Amendments.--The amendments made by this Act
shall take effect 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act.
