A BILL
For the relief of Michael Janssen and Steven Passantino.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER RETIREMENT BENEFITS FOR MICHAEL
JANSSEN AND STEVEN PASSANTINO.
(a) Definition.--In this section, the term ``law enforcement
officer'' has the meaning given the term in section 8401 of title 5,
United States Code.
(b) Deeming of Service.--Notwithstanding any other provision of
law, and subject to subsection (c), Michael Janssen and Steven
Passantino shall, during any period in which the applicable individual
is employed as a series 1895 officer of the U.S. Customs and Border
Protection before, on, or after the date of enactment of this Act, be
deemed to be performing service as a law enforcement officer under
chapter 84 of title 5, United States Code, and shall be subject to the
terms and conditions applicable to a law enforcement officer under that
chapter.
(c) Creditable Service; Deposit.--Any creditable service performed
before the date of enactment of this Act by Michael Janssen or Steven
Passantino under chapter 84 of title 5, United States Code, as a series
1895 officer of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection shall be deemed
to be service as a law enforcement officer only if the applicable
individual meets the deposit requirements of section 8411(f) of title
5, United States Code, with respect to that service.
