A BILL
To direct the Secretary of Defense to list certain individuals who are
awarded the Purple Heart on the internet website of the Department of
Defense that lists individuals who have been awarded certain military
awards.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Honoring Purple Heart Recipients Act
of 2022''.
SEC. 2. INCLUSION OF PURPLE HEART AWARDS ON MILITARY VALOR WEBSITE.
The Secretary of Defense shall ensure that the publicly accessible
internet website of the Department of Defense that lists individuals
who have been awarded certain military awards includes a list of each
individual who meets each of the following criteria:
(1) The individual is awarded the Purple Heart for
qualifying actions that occur after the date of the enactment
of this Act.
(2) The individual elects to be included on such list (or,
if the individual is deceased, the primary next of kin elects
the individual to be included on such list).
(3) The public release of the individual's name does not
constitute a security risk, as determined by the Secretary of
the military department concerned.
