To require certain State departments of transportation to notify first 
       responders of AskRail application, and for other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Rail Inspector Safety Act of 2023''.

SEC. 2. ADDITIONAL INVESTIGATORS.

    In addition to the amounts authorized under section 1118 of title 
49, United States Code, there is authorized to be appropriated 
$3,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2024 through 2028, to remain 
available until expended, to increase the number of railroad, pipeline, 
and hazardous materials investigators within the National 
Transportation Safety Board.
