 Ms. Slotkin) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the 
   Committee on Armed Services, and in addition to the Committee on 
Education and the Workforce, for a period to be subsequently determined 
 by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as 
        fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned

To include financial literacy education as a graduation requirement in 
 high schools operated by the Department of Defense Education Activity.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Department of Defense Student 
Financial Literacy Act''.

SEC. 2. FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS OPERATED BY THE 
              DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE EDUCATION ACTIVITY.

    (a) In General.--The Secretary of Defense, acting through the 
Director of the Department of Defense Education Activity, shall require 
that each student of a high school operated by the Activity complete a 
dedicated course of instruction in financial literacy as a prerequisite 
to graduating from such school.
    (b) Applicability.--The graduation requirement under subsection (a) 
shall apply with respect to students of high schools operated by the 
Department of Defense Education Activity beginning with the cohort of 
students who enter ninth grade in the first school year that begins one 
year after the date of the enactment of this Act.
    (c) Definitions.--In this Act, the term ``high school'' has the 
meaning given that term in section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary 
Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 7801).
