To extend temporary authority regarding license portability for certain 
  practitioners to be able to practice across State borders, and for 
                            other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Veteran Medical Exams for Distant 
Areas Act'' or the ``VET MEDS Act''.

SEC. 2. MODIFICATION TO MATTERS RELATING TO DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS 
              AFFAIRS MEDICAL DISABILITY EXAMINATIONS.

    Section 2002(a)(4) of the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. 
Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 (Public Law 
116-315; 38 U.S.C. 5101 note) is amended--
            (1) by striking ``On the date that is three years after the 
        date of the enactment of this Act'' and inserting ``On 
        September 1, 2028''; and
            (2) by striking ``on the day before the date of the 
        enactment of this Act'' and insert ``on January 4, 2021''.
