                                 A BILL


 
  To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to 
authorize the acquisition and installation of gunshot detection systems 
         under the matching grant program for school security.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``21st Century School Protection 
Act''.

SEC. 2. ACQUISITION AND INSTALLATION OF GUNSHOT DETECTION SYSTEMS UNDER 
              THE MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM FOR SCHOOL SECURITY.

    Section 2701(b) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act 
of 1968 (34 U.S.C. 10551(b)) is amended--
            (1) by redesignating paragraph (9) as paragraph (10); and
            (2) by inserting after paragraph (8) the following:
            ``(9) Acquisition and installation of gunshot detection 
        systems.''.
