A BILL
To amend title 10, United States Code, to permit the Secretary
concerned to furnish mortuary services in the case of certain citizens
of the United States who die outside of the United States, and for
other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. MILITARY MORTUARY SERVICES FOR CIVILIANS.
(a) Military Mortuary Services.--Section 1486(a) of title 10,
United States Code, is amended--
(1) by inserting ``or if the individual arranging for
mortuary services and supplies for a decedent believes the
local commercial mortuary services and supplies are
undesirable,'' after ``prohibitive,'';
(2) in paragraph (6), by striking ``this section'' and
inserting ``paragraphs (1) through (5)''; and
(3) by adding at the end the following:
``(7) Any person not otherwise covered by this section if a
mortuary facility under the jurisdiction of the Secretary
concerned has the capacity and personnel to provide such
services and supplies.''.
(b) Effective Date.--The amendments made by this section shall take
effect on the date of the enactment of this Act and shall apply with
respect to a death occurring on or after such date.
