A BILL
To amend title 38, United States Code, to make certain improvements in
the laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs relating to
burials, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Preserving Veterans' Legacy Act of
2024''.
SEC. 2. HEADSTONES AND MARKERS FOR GROUPS OF INDIVIDUALS BURIED IN
GROUP INTERMENTS.
Section 2306 of title 38, United States Code, is amended--
(1) by redesignating subsection (k) as subsection (l); and
(2) by inserting after subsection (j) the following new
subsection (k):
``(k)(1) In lieu of a headstone or marker for an individual under
this section, the Secretary may furnish a single appropriate headstone
or marker for a group of individuals buried in a group interment if
each individual of such group is eligible for a headstone or marker
furnished under this section.
``(2) The authority to furnish a headstone or marker under
paragraph (1) shall terminate on the date that is seven years after the
date of the enactment of the Preserving Veterans' Legacy Act of
2024.''.
SEC. 3. EXTENSION OF AUTHORITY FOR BURIAL OF SPOUSES AND DEPENDENT
CHILDREN WHO PREDECEASE VETERANS AND ACTIVE DUTY MEMBERS
OF THE ARMED FORCES.
Section 2402(a)(5) of title 38, United States Code, is amended by
striking ``October 1, 2024'' and inserting ``October 1, 2031''.
