A BILL
To provide for the electronic submission of domestic violence
information and communications with visa applicants, and for other
purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Visa Processing Improvement and
Paperwork Reduction Act''.
SEC. 2. ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INFORMATION.
Section 833(a)(5)(A) of the Violence Against Women and Department
of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005 (8 U.S.C. 1375a(a)(5)(A)) is
amended by adding at the end the following:
``(vi) Subject to such regulations as the
Secretary of State may prescribe, mailings
under this subsection may be transmitted by
electronic means.''.
SEC. 3. ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION WITH VISA APPLICANTS.
Section 222 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1202)
is amended by adding at the end the following:
``(i) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, any
requirement under this Act to communicate with visa applicant by
standard mail shall be satisfied if an electronic communication is sent
to the applicant at an electronic mail address provided by the
applicant in connection with the pending application.''.
