_______________________________________________________________________
RESOLUTION
Condemning Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's March 24,
2024, comments on ``60 Minutes'' and calling on the Mexican Government
to limit illegal immigration, and for other purposes.
Whereas, on March 24, 2024, during an interview on CBS's ``60 Minutes'',
President of Mexico Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stated that while he has
the power to ``slow down migration'', ``the flow of migrants will
continue'', unless the United States sends $20,000,000,000 a year to
Latin American countries, lifts sanctions on Venezuela, end its embargo
on Cuba, and grants amnesty to all Mexican nationals living in the
United States;
Whereas President Obrador stated in the same interview that while immigration,
the border, and the economy are key issues in the 2024 United States
election, ``the person who could tip the scales for either candidate is
another President [Obrador]'';
Whereas since January 2021, nearly 7,500,000 illegal immigrants have entered the
United States through the U.S.-Mexico border; and
Whereas the failure of the Mexican Government to utilize the powers at its
disposal to stem the flow of migration has compounded the crisis at the
United States southwest border: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) condemns Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez
Obrador's March 24, 2024, comments as amounting to diplomatic
blackmail; and
(2) calls on the Mexican Government to limit illegal
immigration by--
(A) securing its own southern border;
(B) reaching an agreement with the United States
for the Remain in Mexico Migrant Protection Protocols
(MPP); and
(C) establishing a Safe Third Country Agreement
with the United States.
