Hollyanne Milley, a registered nurse of 36 years and military community
leader.

Mr. Phillips (for himself and Mr. Crow) submitted the following
resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Armed Services

RESOLUTION
Recognizing the exemplary service of General Mark Milley, United States
Army, 20th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and his wife,
Hollyanne Milley, a registered nurse of 36 years and military community
leader.
Whereas General Mark Milley is a native of Massachusetts and the son of a Marine
who fought at Iwo Jima and in other Pacific campaigns during World War
II;
Whereas General Milley received his commission as an armor officer of the United
States Army in 1980;
Whereas General Milley was tested and found worthy to wear the green beret by
completing the Army Special Forces Qualification Course, and commanded
two Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha teams in the 5th Special
Forces Group;
Whereas General Milley held multiple command and staff positions in six
divisions during the last 44 years, including: command of 1st Battalion,
506th Infantry, 2d Infantry Division; command of 2d Brigade Combat Team,
10th Mountain Division; Deputy Commanding General, 101st Airborne
Division (Air Assault); Commanding General, 10th Mountain Division;
Commanding General, III Corps; and Commanding General, United States
Army Forces Command;
Whereas his operational deployments include: the Multinational Force &
Observers, Sinai, Egypt; Operation Just Cause, Panama; Operation Uphold
Democracy, Haiti; Operation Joint Endeavor, Bosnia-Herzegovina;
Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq; and three tours during Operation Enduring
Freedom, Afghanistan;
Whereas General Milley also deployed to Somalia and Colombia;
Whereas, on August 14, 2015, General Milley was sworn in as Chief of Staff of
the Army after being appointed by President Barack H. Obama;
Whereas, on September 30, 2019, General Milley was sworn in as Chairman of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff after being appointed to the position by President
Donald J. Trump;
Whereas General Milley's leadership was instrumental in the creation of programs
such as the Security Force Assistance Brigades and Army Futures Command,
which increased readiness and prepared the armed services for the
future;
Whereas General Milley's education includes a B.A. in political science from
Princeton University, a Master of International Affairs degree from
Columbia University, and an M.A. from the United States Naval War
College in National Security and Strategic Studies;
Whereas Hollyanne Milley has exemplified an extraordinary commitment to nursing
and public health as a registered nurse for 36 years, 18 of which she
spent as a critical care nurse specializing in cardiac nursing;
Whereas Hollyanne Milley serves as a Red Cross Disaster Volunteer and assists
communities suffering from natural disasters, fires, or floods;
Whereas Hollyanne Milley has supported military families and members of the
Armed Forces, and has been an advocate for military spouses and mental
health awareness and education for such members, spouses, and
dependents;
Whereas Hollyanne Milley has demonstrated a commitment to public service and is
a volunteer for the United Service Organizations, Tragedy Assistance
Program for Survivors, Easterseals, United Through Reading, and Army
Emergency Relief;
Whereas both Hollyanne and General Milley have demonstrated deep reverence and
support for Gold Star families; and
Whereas both Hollyanne and General Milley have come to the aid of those in need
and provided life-saving support care in multiple emergency situations:
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives recognizes the
exemplary service of General Mark Milley and his wife, Hollyanne
Milley.
