                               RESOLUTION

    Condemning the horrific gun violence in Fort Worth, Texas, and
     acknowledging the human toll of gun violence in this country.

Whereas gun violence remains the leading cause of death for children and
        adolescents in the United States, according to the latest mortality data
        by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention;
Whereas, on July 3, 2023, two separate mass shootings took place in Fort Worth's
        Como and Polytechnic Heights neighborhoods in Texas;
Whereas the people of Texas mourn the innocent 3 lives that were lost during a
        mass shooting that left more than a dozen injured as the community
        gathered at ComoFest, an annual Fourth of July celebration;
Whereas the lives of 18-year-olds Gabriella Navarrete and Paul Willis and 22-
        year-old Cynthia Santos were taken in what was supposed to be a
        celebration of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness;
Whereas their lives were taken from them, violently and senselessly, in another
        horrific tragedy due to gun violence;
Whereas the Como and Polytechnic Heights neighborhoods recognize this tragic
        episode is absolutely not a depiction of the communities as a whole;
Whereas Como and Polytechnic Heights have created 2 of the most tight-knit,
        loving communities in Fort Worth;
Whereas the Forth Worth Police Department continues to hear the concerns of and
        work with the residents of Como and Polytechnic Heights to combat
        violent crime;
Whereas Fort Worth's overall violent crime as of June 2023 is down 7.4 percent
        compared to June 2022, according to the latest data from the Fort Worth
        Police Department;
Whereas Como, Polytechnic Heights, and the Fort Worth Police Department remain
        committed to healing and making Fort Worth as safe as possible;
Whereas the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit research group that tracks gun
        violence, defines a mass shooting as one in which at least 4 people were
        killed or injured;
Whereas, as of July 10, 2023, the Gun Violence Archive has counted and verified
        371 mass shootings and more than 22,000 gun violence deaths in the
        United States this year; and
Whereas the people of the United States recognize the alarming continuance of
        gun violence in this country and the deep wounds such violence causes
        communities in the United States: Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
            (1) condemns the heinous mass shootings in Como and
        Polytechnic Heights in Fort Worth, Texas;
            (2) honors the memory of the victims that were lost;
            (3) expresses hope for a full and speedy recovery for
        people that were injured in the attack;
            (4) expresses gratitude to community leaders and first
        responders for their commitment to help the residents of Como
        and Polytechnic Heights heal from this tragedy; and
            (5) acknowledges the human toll of gun violence in this
        country.
