Mr. Luetkemeyer submitted the following resolution; which was referred
to the Committee on Veterans' Affairs
_______________________________________________________________________
RESOLUTION
Acknowledging the service, sacrifice, and courage of veterans and
ensuring that Congress imposes no additional fee or cost for benefits
earned through service.
Whereas Congress has recognized the service and sacrifice of our veterans by
creating select veteran benefits that include healthcare service, home
loans, life insurance, disability compensation, educational assistance,
and more;
Whereas these benefits have helped millions of veterans and servicemembers go to
college, purchase a home, and receive needed medical services;
Whereas the benefits earned by veterans help level the playing field for
servicemembers who missed an opportunity to build credit and often
deferred financial gain to serve our country, which included frequent
job-related moves or deployments while in service, had limited
retirement plan options while on active duty, and had spouses that had
limited ability to find gainful employment; and
Whereas additional fees and costs imposed on veterans for veteran-earned
benefits place additional burdens on our veterans: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) supports and honors the service of our veterans;
(2) supports the benefits veterans earned through service,
and the cost of veteran benefits should not be borne by the
veterans themselves;
(3) recognizes that veterans should not be used as the
payfor to support veterans' benefits, given that they have
already paid for these benefits by virtue of their service to
the Nation; and
(4) opposes any efforts to impose new fees or burdens on
veterans for veteran benefits.
