Whereas, on October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists led a massive attack on the State of Israel, in which they launched thousands of rockets at the country, murdered civilians, including children and the elderly, and abducted over 100 hostages into the Gaza Strip; Whereas this gruesome and unprovoked attack took place on Shabbat, on the holidays of Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah in Israel, and on the 50th anniversary of the start of the Yom Kippur War; Whereas Hamas is a United States-designated Foreign terrorist organization whose founding charter states a commitment to destroying the State of Israel; Whereas, on October 7, 2023, following news of the attack, the New York City- Democratic Socialists of America (NYC-DSA) stated that ``[t]oday's events are a direct result of Israel's apartheid regime'' and that ``[t]his was not unprovoked''; Whereas, on October 7, 2023, the NYC-DSA announced a rally in Times Square for October 8, 2023, ``[i]n solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to resist 75 years of occupation and apartheid''; Whereas, during the October 8th rally, attendees chanted phrases that supported the Hamas terrorist attack, including ``resistance is justified when people are occupied'' and ``by any means necessary''; Whereas one attendee at the rally held up a swastika sign on their phone; Whereas attendees at the rally stomped on and burned an Israeli flag; Whereas the presumption that the Hamas-instigated war against Israel is the fault of the Jewish state is both antisemitic and unequivocally false; and Whereas the NYC-DSA rally was condemned as antisemitic and anti-Israel by leading New York elected officials including New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) condemns the antisemitic and anti-Israel New York City- Democratic Socialists of America rally that celebrated the Hamas terrorist attack and the barbaric slaughter of Israelis; (2) stands with our ally Israel against terrorism and supports Israel's right to defend itself; and (3) stands against antisemitism globally and in our own backyard. <all>
