                               RESOLUTION

            Expressing support for Veterans Employment Week.

Whereas throughout the history of the United States, brave men and women in
        uniform have fought to secure and preserve freedom and liberty for the
        people of the United States and people around the world;
Whereas the United States owes veterans and families of veterans a debt that can
        never be repaid and must ensure that veterans have the tools and support
        needed to make a meaningful transition to civilian life after service in
        the Armed Forces;
Whereas, even after serving in the Armed Forces, veterans make invaluable
        contributions to society and the economy as employees, business owners,
        and entrepreneurs;
Whereas research by the D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families
        found that veterans exhibit advanced team-building skills in
        organizational settings and achieve high levels of trust with colleagues
        and superiors;
Whereas research by the D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families
        found that veterans demonstrate more resilient behavior and an ability
        to recover quicker after a failed experience compared to individuals who
        have not served;
Whereas, according to data and estimations of the Bureau of the Census, nearly
        321,000 firms in the United States in 2020 were owned by veterans,
        employing over 3,000,000 individuals and contributing more than
        $926,000,000,000 to the economy;
Whereas over 15 percent of businesses owned by a veteran are also owned by a
        woman, and 74.3 percent of businesses with employees that are owned by a
        veteran were founded by the veteran instead of being purchased or
        inherited;
Whereas, according to statistics of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 3.9 percent
        of veterans were unemployed in September 2023;
Whereas, according to statistics of the Department of Labor, 5.6 percent of the
        workforce of the United States is veterans (amounting to nearly
        9,000,000 veterans in the workforce) and the number of women who are
        veterans and participating in the workforce grows each year;
Whereas the House of Representatives applauds companies that recognize the value
        of hiring veterans and that strive to create a more seamless transition
        to civilian life after service in the Armed Forces;
Whereas businesses across the United States should work together to support
        members of the Armed Forces and veterans, and such businesses should
        continue to develop best practices for the hiring and retention of
        veterans and spouses of veterans;
Whereas veterans in the workforce have unique stories and should be encouraged
        to share personal opinions about the importance of experience in the
        Armed Forces as such experience relates to participation in the
        workforce;
Whereas the House of Representatives applauds individuals who served in the
        Armed Forces and who, having completed such service, continue to
        strengthen the United States by contributing to the economy;
Whereas the House of Representatives recognizes that without the participation
        of veterans in the workforce, the United States would not be leading the
        world in innovation and economic growth;
Whereas November 11, 2023, is a Federal holiday recognizing the service and
        dedication of veterans; and
Whereas November 5, 2023, through November 11, 2023, is recognized as Veterans
        Employment Week: Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved, That the House of Representatives, in honor of veterans
on Veterans Day and in recognition of the value and benefit of veterans
and spouses of veterans to the workforce and economy of the United
States, expresses support for the designation of Veterans Employment
Week.
