premeditated, and barbaric attack by the Iran-backed terrorist group
Hamas;
Whereas over 1,400 Israelis were brutally slaughtered and more than 240 have
been taken hostage by Hamas into Gaza;
Whereas Hamas purposefully targeted civilians, torturing, raping, and murdering
women, children, and the elderly;
Whereas at least 10 of the hostages in Gaza are United States citizens;
Whereas at least 33 American citizens in Israel are among those murdered by
Hamas since October 7, 2023;
Whereas Hamas's initiation of this war and its embedding of command and control,
weapons, and munitions to use civilians as human shields has led to a
tragic loss of life among Palestinians;
Whereas Iran provided funding, training, and support for Hamas;
Whereas there has been a concerning rise in antisemitism in the United States
and worldwide;
Whereas the State of Israel is the most trusted and strongest democratic ally of
the United States in the region;
Whereas the United States and the Jewish State of Israel are inextricably tied
together by their shared Abrahamic faiths; and
Whereas November 17, 2023, through November 19, 2023, should be held as a period
of prayer and reflection for the people of Israel: Now, therefore, be it
