RES. 986 Condemning New York Governor Kathy Hochul for reducing funding for schools across New York State and prioritizing increased funding for migrants. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES January 30, 2024 Mr. Molinaro (for himself, Ms. Stefanik, Mr. Garbarino, Mr. Langworthy, Ms. Tenney, Mr. D'Esposito, Mr. LaLota, Mr. Lawler, Ms. Malliotakis, and Mr. Williams of New York) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Education and the Workforce _______________________________________________________________________ RESOLUTION Condemning New York Governor Kathy Hochul for reducing funding for schools across New York State and prioritizing increased funding for migrants. Whereas, on January 16, 2024, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the fiscal year 2025 State budget, which is a record high 233 billion dollar budget; Whereas the proposed budget includes a new formula for school aid funding that reduces funding for hundreds of schools across the State of New York; Whereas such school aid funding cuts will ultimately lead to a decline in disability services; Whereas Governor Hochul's 2025 budget includes billions of dollars in additional funds for the migrant crisis; and Whereas the additional billions of dollars in funds for migrants will be used to provide migrants with legal assistance, housing, transportation, health care, and jobs: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) denounces Governor Kathy Hochul for reducing funding for schools across New York State; (2) condemns Governor Hochul for allowing the border crisis to displace students and harm their education; and (3) urges Governor Hochul to rescind her 2025 State budget proposal and prioritize students over migrants by reversing the funding cuts to schools. <all>
