 To amend title 49, United States Code, to allow the owner or operator 
of a small hub airport that is reclassified as a medium hub airport to 
  elect to be treated as a small hub airport, and for other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Dependable Classification of 
Airports Act''.

SEC. 2. TREATMENT OF AIRPORTS RECLASSIFIED FROM SMALL TO MEDIUM HUB 
              AIRPORTS.

    (a) In General.--Chapter 471 of title 49, United States Code, is 
amended by inserting after section 47131 the following:
``Sec. 47132. Treatment of airports reclassified from small to medium 
              hub airports
    ``With respect to the application of law and regulation, the owner 
or operator of a small hub airport that, in fiscal year 2021 or any 
succeeding fiscal year, is designated as a medium hub airport, may 
elect to be treated as a small hub airport for any period of up to 5 
consecutive fiscal years, beginning with the fiscal year in which the 
small hub airport is to be designated as a medium hub airport.''.
    (b) Clerical Amendment.--The analysis for chapter 471 of title 49, 
United States Code, is amended by inserting after the item relating to 
section 47131 the following:

``47132. Treatment of airports reclassified from small to medium hub 
                            airports.''.
