following resolution; which was considered and agreed to

RESOLUTION
To honor the life and death of Richard Clarence Clark, former Senator
for the State of Iowa.
Whereas Richard Clarence Clark (referred to in this preamble as ``Dick Clark'')
was born in Paris, Linn County, Iowa, in 1928;
Whereas Dick Clark served in the Army from 1950 to 1952;
Whereas Dick Clark received a bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University in
1953, and a master's degree in history from the University of Iowa in
1956;
Whereas Dick Clark was an assistant professor of history and political science
at Upper Iowa University from 1959 to 1964;
Whereas Dick Clark served as administrative assistant to Representative John C.
Culver from 1965 to 1972;
Whereas Dick Clark walked approximately 1,300 miles across the State of Iowa to
mark his campaign for the Senate;
Whereas Dick Clark was elected to the Senate in 1972, representing the State of
Iowa from 1973 to 1979;
Whereas Dick Clark, after leaving the Senate, was appointed by President Jimmy
Carter to be Ambassador at Large and United States Coordinator for
Refugee Affairs; and
Whereas Dick Clark was a senior fellow and founding executive director of the
Congressional Program at the Aspen Institute: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That--
(1) the Senate--
(A) has heard with profound sorrow and deep regret
the announcement of the death of Richard C. Clark,
former Member of the Senate; and
(B) respectfully requests that the Secretary of the
Senate communicate this resolution to the House of
Representatives and transmit an enrolled copy thereof
to the family of Richard C. Clark; and
(2) when the Senate adjourns today, it stands adjourned as
a further mark of respect to the memory of the late Richard C.
Clark, former Senator for the State of Iowa.
