                      RECOGNIZING FIRST RESPONDERS

<bullet> Mr. SANDERS. Mr. President, as you may know, an arsonist set
fire to my Senate office in Burlington, VT, endangering not only the
lives of my staff, but many other people who work in the building.
Within 2 days, a suspect was

apprehended and is now being held in custody.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the outstanding work of the
Burlington Police Department; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms,
and Explosives; the Shelburne Police Department; the Williston Police
Department; the Vermont State Police; and the U.S. Capitol Police--who
did an extraordinary job in responding to the fire and arresting this
individual.
Our first responders are under an enormous amount of pressure and
regularly put their lives on the line to protect our communities. Last
week was no exception. Let me thank all of them for the enormously
important work they do.<bullet>
