To require the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a census of population 
  counting only citizens of the United States, and for other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Correct the Count Act''.

SEC. 2. CENSUS OF UNITED STATES CITIZENS.

    (a) In General.--Notwithstanding any other provision of law, on the 
date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Commerce, acting 
through the Director of the Bureau of the Census, shall conduct a 
census of population in accordance with section 141 of title 13, United 
States Code, except that such census of population shall count in any 
tabulation of population only individuals who are citizens of the 
United States.
    (b) Citizenship Question.--In conducting the census required by 
subsection (a), the Secretary of Commerce shall include in any 
questionnaire distributed or otherwise used for the purpose of 
determining the total population by States a checkbox or other similar 
option for the respondent to indicate, for the respondent and for each 
of the members of the household of the respondent, whether such 
individual is a citizen of the United States.
