bill; which was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources, and in 
  addition to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, for a 
 period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for 
consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the 
                          committee concerned

   To ensure the uninterrupted storage of data sets of the National 
    Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and for other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may cited as the ``NOAA Data Preservation Act''.

SEC. 2. UNINTERRUPTED STORAGE OF DATA SETS OF THE NATIONAL OCEANIC AND 
              ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION.

    (a) In General.--The Secretary of Commerce may not cancel a 
contract with a cloud service provider for the storage of a data set of 
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration unless the 
Secretary satisfies the conditions described in subsection (b).
    (b) Conditions Described.--The conditions described in this 
subsection are the following:
            (1) Development of a plan for the uninterrupted storage of 
        the data set described in subsection (a) that includes 
        transition to a cloud service provider other than a cloud 
        service provider referred to in such subsection of such data 
        set, and any associated reporting systems.
            (2) Collaboration with the Administrator of the National 
        Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to ensure the 
        uninterrupted protection of such data set.
    (c) Cloud Service Provider Defined.--In this section, the term 
``cloud service provider'' has the meaning given the term in section 
2200 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (6 U.S.C. 650).
