   Ms. Bynum (for herself and Mr. Bresnahan) submitted the following 
 resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce

                               RESOLUTION


 
   Expressing support for the designation of May 2025 as ``National 
                       Electrical Safety Month''.

Whereas each year, electrical failure or malfunction accounts for thousands of 
        home structure fires;
Whereas the safety and well-being of citizens is of utmost importance, and it is 
        crucial to equip citizens with the necessary knowledge and understanding 
        regarding potential electrical hazards in homes, schools, and the 
        workplace;
Whereas each year, fires caused by electrical failure or malfunction result in 
        over 1,400 injuries, $1,300,000,000 in property damage, and nearly 500 
        deaths;
Whereas each year, over 2,000 children are treated in hospital emergency rooms 
        for electrical shock or burns caused by tampering with a wall outlet;
Whereas citizens are encouraged to inspect their home and workplace for possible 
        electrical hazards;
Whereas citizens are advised to protect their homes and families with the latest 
        safety technology, such as ground-fault circuit interrupters, arc-fault 
        circuit interrupters, surge protective devices, and tamper-resistant 
        receptacles;
Whereas citizens are urged to install, test, and properly maintain an adequate 
        number of smoke alarms in the home; and
Whereas the Electrical Safety Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated 
        exclusively to promoting electrical safety in the home, school, and 
        workplace through education, awareness, and advocacy: Now, therefore, be 
        it
    Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
            (1) expresses support for the designation of ``National 
        Electrical Safety Month'' to raise awareness of electrical 
        hazards in homes, schools, and workplaces and actions citizens 
        may take to protect against such hazards;
            (2) encourages all citizens to observe the importance of 
        establishing and practicing electrical safety habits in the 
        home, school, and workplace to reduce the number of 
        electrically related fires, injuries, and deaths;
            (3) supports the efforts of the Electrical Safety 
        Foundation to provide necessary and fundamental understanding 
        of electrical hazards associated with emerging technologies; 
        and
            (4) requests that the President issue a proclamation 
        calling upon citizens to observe the month with appropriate 
        programs and activities.
