A BILL
To give effect to a final rule of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials
Safety Administration relating to gas pipeline leak detection and
repair, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Gas Pipeline Leak Detection and
Repair Act of 2025''.
SEC. 2. GAS PIPELINE LEAK DETECTION AND REPAIR.
(a) In General.--Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the
final rule of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety
Administration issued under section 60102(q) of title 49, United States
Code, on January 17, 2025, relating to ``Pipeline Safety: Gas Pipeline
Leak Detection and Repair'' (Docket No. PHMSA-2021-0039; RIN 2137-AF51)
shall take effect on the date of enactment of this Act.
(b) Subsequent Updates.--Nothing in this section prohibits the
Secretary from updating any regulation promulgated or revised under
this section or section 60102(q) of title 49, United States Code, to
provide protections or standards that are more stringent than those
provided by the rule made effective by subsection (a) or any other rule
in effect as of the date of enactment of this Act.
