  To impose criminal penalties for camping on public property in the 
                         District of Columbia.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. CAMPING ON PUBLIC PROPERTY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

    (a) Definition.--In this section, the term ``camp'' means to use 
any material to set up, maintain, or establish a temporary place of 
abode.
    (b) Offense.--It shall be unlawful in the District of Columbia to 
camp on public property.
    (c) Penalty.--Any person who violates subsection (b) shall be fined 
not more than $500, imprisoned for not more than 30 days, or both.
