Description: H.Amdt. 884 — 101st Congress (1989-1990)
Amendment required the President to certify to Congress that the Chinese Government accounted for and released pro-democracy demonstrators before most-favored-nation status could be extended for another year. \ As amended by the Wolf amendment (A002) language was added requiring that substantial progress be made by the Chinese Government regarding the end of religious persection in China and Tibet, and toward the release of the leaders and members of all religious groups being detained.
An amendment to require Presidential certification that the Chinese government has released Chinese citizens detained or imprisoned during the Tiananmen Square uprising before Most Favored Nation trading status can be granted. The President would also be required to certify that "substantial progess" has been made toward other human rights goals specified in the bill.
