To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide that the condition of
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) becoming manifest in a veteran within
seven years from discharge from military service shall be presumed to have
been incurred in or aggravated by such service for purposes of disability
compensation benefits provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Mr. APPLEGATE (by request) introduced the following bill; which was referred
to the Committee on Veterans' Affairs
A BILL
To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide that the condition of
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) becoming manifest in a veteran within
seven years from discharge from military service shall be presumed to have
been incurred in or aggravated by such service for purposes of disability
compensation benefits provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United
  States of America in Congress assembled, That section 312(a) of title
  38, United States Code, is amended by inserting after paragraph (5) the
  following new paragraph:
  `(6) amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) developing a 10 percent degree
  of disability or more within seven years from the date of separation from
  such service;'.
