   To authorize the award of the Southwest Asia Service Medal to any 
member of the Armed Forces who was assigned to duty outside the United 
States during the Persian Gulf War with a unit that actively engaged in 
                   combat operations during that war.

Mrs. Meyers of Kansas introduced the following bill; which was referred 
                   to the Committee on Armed Services

                                 A BILL


 
   To authorize the award of the Southwest Asia Service Medal to any 
member of the Armed Forces who was assigned to duty outside the United 
States during the Persian Gulf War with a unit that actively engaged in 
                   combat operations during that war.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SOUTHWEST ASIA SERVICE MEDAL.

    The Secretary of Defense shall provide that eligibility for the 
Southwest Asia Service Medal shall be extended to any member of the 
Armed Forces who was assigned to duty outside the United States with a 
unit that actively engaged in combat operations in the Persian Gulf War 
during the period beginning on January 16, 1991, and ending on March 3, 
1991.
