 To amend title 38 of the United States Code to provide pay parity for 
       dentists with physicians employed by the Veterans Health 
                            Administration.

   Mr. Filner (for himself, Mr. Gutierrez, Mr. Evans, and Mr. Doyle) 
 introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on 
                           Veterans' Affairs

                                 A BILL


 
 To amend title 38 of the United States Code to provide pay parity for 
       dentists with physicians employed by the Veterans Health 
                            Administration.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is--
The VA Dentists Equity Act''.

SEC. 2. PAY PARITY FOR DENTISTS.

    (a) In General.--Section 7435(b) of title 38, United States Code is 
amended--
            (1) in paragraph (1), by striking ``$3,500'' and inserting 
        ``$9,000'';
            (2) in paragraph (2)(A), by amending the table to read as 
        follows:

            (3) in paragraph (3)(A), by striking ``$20,000'' and 
        inserting ``$40,000'';
            (4) in paragraph (4)(A), by amending the table to read as 
        follows:

            (6) in paragraph (6), by striking ``$5,000'' and inserting 
        ``$17,000''; and
            (7) in paragraph (7)(A), by striking ``$5,000'' and 
        inserting ``$15,000''.
    (b) Effective Date.--The amendments made by this section shall 
apply to any contract entered into under chapter 74 of title 38, United 
States Code, after the later of October 1, 1999 or the date of the 
enactment of this Act.
