RES. 443 Expressing the sense of Congress supporting the 2002 World Basketball Championship and welcoming the 16 national teams competing. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES July 17, 2002 Ms. Carson of Indiana (for herself, Mr. Visclosky, Mr. Pence, Mr. Roemer, Mr. Souder, Mr. Buyer, Mr. Burton of Indiana, Mr. Kerns, Mr. Hostettler, and Mr. Hill) submitted the following concurrent resolution; which was referred to the Committee on International Relations _______________________________________________________________________ CONCURRENT RESOLUTION Expressing the sense of Congress supporting the 2002 World Basketball Championship and welcoming the 16 national teams competing. Whereas the 2002 World Basketball Championship will be held from August 29, 2002, through September 8, 2002, in Indianapolis, Indiana; Whereas 2002 marks the first time in the 50 year history of the World Basketball Championship it will be held in the United States; Whereas 16 national teams will be competing as part of the 62 game, 11 day event; Whereas the 2002 World Basketball Championship is expected to draw between 150,000 and 175,000 basketball fans from throughout the United States and foreign nations; and Whereas international sporting events such as the 2002 World Basketball Championship play an important role in continuing to foster positive international relationships and friendships between participating teams and fans: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That the Congress-- (1) supports the 2002 World Basketball Championship to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana; and (2) welcomes the participating teams from Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Lebanon, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Venezuela, and Yugoslavia. <all>
