[Extensions of Remarks] [Page E1476] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [www.gpo.gov] IN RECOGNITION OF STEPFAMILY DAY IN MICHIGAN AND THE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE STEPFAMILY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA ______ HON. DEBBIE STABENOW of michigan in the house of representatives Wednesday, September 13, 2000 Ms. STABENOW. Mr. Speaker, today I recognize Stepfamily Day, which is promoted by the Stepfamily Association of America (SAA) as a day to recognize and celebrate the importance of stepfamilies throughout our nation. On the 16th of September, stepfamilies will be coming together in Michigan and many other states to commemorate their special bonds. Due to the efforts of Michigan's Christy Borgeld, Stepfamily Day founder and board member of the SAA, Stepfamily Day picnics will be held in Michigan and throughout the nation. Mr. Speaker, this event is but one example of the strides this organization has made in its dedication to the acceptance, support and success of stepfamily living. As it was so aptly put by Christy and the SAA: Our nation has been blessed by thousands of loving stepparents and stepchildren who are daily reminders of the joys, trials and triumphs of the family experience and of the boundless love contained in the bond between parents and children. It is my pleasure to pay tribute to the SAA for its commitment and hard work on behalf of American families, and to wish families in Michigan and nationwide a happy and successful Stepfamily Day. ____________________
