                                 PRAYER

  The Chaplain, the Reverend Patrick J. Conroy, offered the following 
prayer:
  Loving God, we give You thanks for giving us another day.
  At the end of the third week of the government shutdown, we ask Your 
blessing once again upon the Members of the people's House and all 
those whose efforts are needed, together, to bring an end to it.
  Pour out Your spirit of wisdom, and banish from all those involved 
the dark spirit of pride.
  Bless our Nation in the weekend to come, and may all that is done 
within the people's House be for Your greater honor and glory.
  Amen.
